Your dog would never do it …

October 29, 2011

Puppies are very nice and funny. I am sure that as soon as many of you see one of them you would like to take it with you.

However, there are some things you have to consider before you decide to have a pet. Among others, it is not easy or cheap and it involves a lot of responsibilities: feeding them, taking them out for a walk or going to the vet when they’re sick. Apart from that, remember that you have to be there for them every day, it doesn’t matter if you want to have a holiday or you feel tired to go for a walk.

Unfortunately, hundreds of pets are abandoned every year by heartless people who didn’t reconsider those questions. The reasons: I have to travel, the dog has grown and bites everything, or simply they have gotten tired of them. Can you imagine how a dog must feel lost in a city? I do and when I try to imagine, it really hurts me because the future for that helpless creature is starve to death or be knocked down by a car.

However, if you have a pet in spite of the duties having a dog involves, be sure that you will have a loyal friend who will always be there to give love to you. In contrast, if you are wondering whether to have one, please don’t waste your money on a pet shop, there are millions of pets waiting for a family to take care of them for free. You can look for one of them at http://www.svpap.com/ . My brother adopted one and he says it was the most gratifying thing though he can’t adopt all the dogs.

Apart from the abuse, neglect pet is another injustice that happens increasingly as Fran says. People get tirad of having responsibilities. Also, I once heard that pets were abandoned by the bureaucracy to bring them to other countries. Whatever the reasons,
I wonder if the laws of protection might be harder with all kinds of injustices.

In spite of the fact that I´m not an animal lover person, I really look up to people who have pets.
Your advert is incredibly moving and shows us how loyal are dogs (there have been some cases like that in real life). Congratulations for all of you who in some way, give to animals a wonderful opportunity for a better life and share with others your love of animals.

The average of abandons of pets is considerably higher in summer because of the holidays. Children ask for a pet, on Christmas they have it. After realizing they can’t look after it, they abandon the pet.
As Fran says, only heartless people can do it. And, what about how parents are teaching to their children? Consequently children will do the same tomorrow.
In my opinion laws of protection should be harder, as Susana says, in order to avoid this horrible behaviour. But it never happen.

I guess one of the main problems, apart from people manners and culture about pets, it´s that all kinds of pets are shown, as any other product, in shop windows. This make them very tempting for children who don´t think about the great responsibility they take when they get one. In other countries that´s forbidden and it avoids buying a pet that catches your eye for a moment, but entails a big change in your life style.
