Picasso was worn in Málaga the 25th of Octuber 1981. Despite the fact that his family was not rich, he had a very happy chilhood. He was usually around his aunts and cousins who looked after both him and his sister Lola, 3 years younger than him.

Soon Picasso came in contact with all the painting stuff because of his father, who was a painter and drawing teacher. Since Picasso was a child he knew that he wanted to be a painter. His father taught him to draw and due to this useful help and his own talent Picasso did his first painting at the age of 8 “El pequeño picador”.

In 1891 Picasso´s family went to live to La Coruña, in the north of Spain where his father  got a place as a teacher. One day his father felt highly surprised by Picasso’s ability to paint and immediatedly gave him all his paintbrushes and other stuff and decided to give up painting. His father realized  his son´s talent.

In 1985 all the family moved to Barcelona, while Picasso went to study in Madrid, thanks to his uncle’s funding. Picasso started to study in the famous San Francisco School. Very soon Picasso felt disappointed at school because of the traditional and conservative way of teaching and what he did was to visit Art Museums and leave San Fernando.

After that experience he came back to Barcelona, where he was absolutely interested in painting in his own style and furthermore, he was interested in discovering new ways of painting.

Picasso was always in search for something new, he started with Cubism, then Abstractionism, Surrealism and his Blue and Pink periods all of wich have had a huge influence in Modern Art.

Throughout his life Picasso was a highly prolific artist, he did paintings, sculptures, drawings, poetry, ceramics, lithography, theatre dressings and others. His creativity was amazing!

When he was 90 years old he had the honor of exhibiting part of his work in The Louvre in  Paris, and this was the first time that a living painter did it. He was an a live legend¡

Despite his work and his masterpieces, for example “El Guernica”, still there are some people who keep been arguing if Picasso was a great artist or not. As far as I am concerned there is no doubt that he is one of the biggest artists whose work I know. And what do you think? Do you believe Picasso is a great artist or not?

Thank you for this interesting post Eulalia. I have to confess I don’t understand about art and I find Guernica extremely difficult, but there’s no doubt that Picasso was a great artist, is there?
