Two -part expressions

February 5, 2009

Silvia works in an office , which is all hustle and bustle, people are

always in and out, ranting and raving about this and that. By and large, workers

have to get up bright and early for their daily routine.

Fortunately, Silvia takes it easy and now and again she wines and dines with her

workmates. She has been thinking about setting up her own business but

before that some odds and ends need to be fixed, therefore the plan is still

not cut and dried.

Yesterday I was at a loose end and once and for all I decided to start writing my memories about 23th February 1981.
I can remember nothing, I was only four months, but I have heard a lot of stories sbout it. First and foremost there was a soldier called Tejero who went into Congress ranting and raving, he and other soldiers made a lot of hustle and bustle (especially at Madrid and Valencia), and they spent hours picking and choosing things.
Tejero and those soldiers that followed him were high and dry. Although it wasn’t piece of cake, fortunately everybody went out safe and sound.

Silvia worked in an office. Although she put body and soul in her work she was sick and tired of being underpaid. When she commented her salary with her boss she always received ifs and buts from him.
Finally, expecting to get a free and easy life she decided to give up her job. Before leaving, she recommend to invest in bricks and mortar to her boss.
Nowadays, she works inventing two-part expressions, what is very well-paid endeed, and his ex-boss is down-and-out now.

By and large, the police are more worried about facts and figures than about law and order. This is a tried and tested assessment. Why? I live in a very noisy part of the city, a place where people like being out and around. For this reason, I have some difficulties to sleep every day, not every now and again. In those cases, I usually called the police to make a complaint, and they usually didn’t come, maybe thinking: “It’s him again, with his aches and pains.” One night, sick and tired of their excuses, I decided to solve the problem once and for all: I thrown my flowerpots to some vandals on the street. Am I proud of it? Not exactly. Sorry about that? Well, I missed the shot and they are still kicking and alive.
